Review: I really appreciate Antoine Fuqua's directing career. From the classic "Training Day" to the fun Equalizer duology, Fukua has demonstrated his talent for approaching action sequences. As you would expect, Infinite offers several action scenes and car chases, most of which are immersive and quite enjoyable. The third act is extremely exaggerated in the same scenery, which is only tolerable because of a special, but undeveloped character trait, which ultimately justifies the most absurd moments. Mauro Fiore's camera work and Konrad Buff IV's editing are decent enough, but the last act has too many wobbly cams and too many cuts for my taste.

As for the story, things get complicated. Ian Schorr's argument presents a really interesting premise behind a fascinating world-building. However, Mark Wahlberg's grueling voice-over, which, like the entire cast, does a good job, contains strong exposure that is then repeated in dialogues throughout the film, unnecessarily stretching the lead time. This narrative rarely adds anything to the story, or even influences the viewer's opinion of the protagonist.

Plus, it's one of those films that has tremendous narrative potential, but never really gets it. Personally, I find this concept really intriguing, but its development does not leave behind its premise. In fact, just by looking at the main trailer, most of the world building is delivered to the public in those few minutes.

In fairness, in more competent hands, this adaptation could be the start of a new franchise with endless possibilities for sequels, prequels, spin-offs, or even a series launch.


 
So Infinity is a harmlessly entertaining movie that could have been much, much better.
