Guy Ritchie is back with a new film, and this time it's a film with The Wrath of Man and the always but always capable Jason Statham.
In the film, we follow the mysterious H, the game of Statham, who gets a job as a security guard on a money transport that transports millions of people between banks and other institutions every day. This is not what it seems, and very quickly it becomes clear that there is a special reason why he took this job, and his past makes him a special person.
Meeting revenge and robbery
You gradually realize what it is when you go inside and watch a film by Guy Ritchie. He has a lot of style, not just in the wardrobe, but also in the way the film is told, both visually and narratively, which is why his films usually deal with very dark and dark sides of humanity. All of its specs are also at their best here, where the film oozes style from the start as we see the money transport robbery, a one-off take from the car, and then carried over to a title episode that could easily be part of one of the latest Bond films.
The story is pretty simple, and most can probably deduce from the title that revenge is the driving force behind the film. However, it wouldn't be a movie with Richie in the director's chair if there weren't a few curls on the classic genre film. In such an embrace, this is primarily due to the fact that the story is told in a different and unfamiliar way. Usually, events are watched from the point of view of the protagonist, and as we get to know him, we also find that the mystery of his plot of revenge is being clarified. We do it here, but all these plot points are already completed within the first hour, otherwise the story unfolds differently. We both jump in time, watch the scenes from the point of view of different characters, and then we are also allowed to follow the antagonists for a while.
It sounds like a super cool concept, and it has huge potential to be about anything other than revenge, but other than the very evil Scott Eastwood, who really tries to emulate his father when it comes to school, the focus is more and more on aesthetics. and not so much content.
Wrath of Man is a good movie from Guy Ritchie. Richie tries to tell the story more than he's used to, but unfortunately the whole thing is drowned in so much violence and so many angry people that you'll never be as involved as you could. Although I think Jason Statham is doing well. He does not reinvent the acting profession and does not show completely new sides of himself, but he is somewhat close to the master in whispering his lines - and yet he seems more frightening than funny. He is the protagonist of a very dark and violent film. So it should be, mainly because you're a Statham fan, that you need to watch the movie, because the rest is too dirty and messy to be ripped off.
