This abbreviation is a grandiose move - and not only because that the alleged stunt further increases the tension of an already intense and simultaneously surprisingly entertaining thriller.

After the news hit the story of a young English YouTuber who joined ISIS and traveled to Syria, freelance TV journalist Amy (Valen Kane) got an idea: she created a new Facebook profile called Melody, makes herself ten years younger and claims that she has converted to Islam. After several requests for friendship and the publication of propaganda videos, Abu Bilel (Shazad Latif), who was also from London and fought on the side of IS in Syria, wrote to her via messenger. Soon, written messages are no longer enough for him, he wants skype. Amy agrees, consumes everything. She soon has a story that her editor Vic (Christine Adams) would like to air. But Amy thinks she can get more from Billel. She wants to know how the girls are transported to Syria. She is becoming more and more addicted to the charismatic terrorist - and perhaps going too far ...

An entire movie that can only be played on a computer screen? This has happened a couple of times, for example, with 'Unknown User' Bekmambetov. "However, the idea of ​​a desktop always turns into a gimmick at the latest, when a figure suddenly picks up a laptop with a webcam and starts working with it (just so that we viewers , could continue to watch.) In Profile, on the other hand, it is quite logical that Bekmambetov chose this form of representation. Various windows play an important role in this. About her, we see the notes Amy took for conversations, her research on her colleague's statements, and warnings from colleagues and friends. Above all, however, the thrill is heightened when Bilel suddenly demands that she free up her screen for Skype viewing. At another moment we see Amy typing something, then hesitating, looking for the right words, and at the last moment recalls that the phrase "your war" can have a distancing effect. Bekmambetov borrows many elements from Erelle's book and sometimes recreates seemingly absurd moments from conversations, for example, the statement by an IS fighter that the suicide belt is the latest chic among women who came from Europe. But no, then she would be his wife, the IS leader raved, so he would also prefer converts who are much more sexually open and would do more to please their husbands.

Although all these excerpts or the widespread use of gifs with cats in entertainment are taken directly from the book, Bekmambetov decides to make decisive and necessary changes in the second part. In her book, Anna Erelle makes a clear distinction between her thoughts and the thoughts from her invented alter ego Melody. Talking about herself in the first person, she talks about the submissive Melody in the third person, who suddenly feels needed and loved. In fact, the journalist hated her colleague more and more, as she explained in an interview about the publication of the book. However, Bekmambetov unites the two characters in the film.
